In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Cape Cod escaped with a 5-3 victory over Lockport.
Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Aaron Deady\’s goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.
Chuck Costello and Mike Jessman provided the spark for Cape Cod, combining for two goals and five assists. Costello finished with two goals and one assist and Jessman also notched zero goals and four assists.
Cape Cod stifled Lockport\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cape Cod kept Lockport\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Sam Fitzpatrick made 37 saves on 42 shots.
Lockport forced Cape Cod goalie Steven Schmitt to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.
Lockport was led by Frank II Vecchio, who grabbed two goals. Vecchio scored the first of his two goals at 16:33 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cape Cod. Dylan Jenkins assisted on the tally. Vecchio\’s next tally made the score 4-3 Cape Cod with 3:23 left in the third period. Justin Andriaccio picked up the assist. Devin Kasperek also scored for Lockport. More assists for Lockport came via Gibson Stuart, who had one.
Steven Schmitt made 42 saves for Cape Cod on 45 shots. Cape Cod incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Lockport totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
